Western Sydney Wanderers, Central Coast Mariners play out goalless draw

Western Sydney Wanderers play out a goalless draw against Central Coast Mariners to remain rooted to the foot of the A-League ladder.

Western Sydney Wanderers remain rooted to the foot of the A-League ladder and without a win this season having played out a goalless draw against Central Coast Mariners.

The Asian Champions League winners have made a slow start to the campaign, and they were unable to turn around their fortunes in front of their home supporters at the Parramatta Stadium against another side who have underperformed thus far.

A fine challenge by Jacob Poscoliero denied Wanderers moving in on goal in a first half of few chances, before Eddy Bosnar fired a free kick narrowly wide of the target.

Ante Covic had to be on guard to produce a triple save to keep out Mariners as the visitors began to pile on the pressure.

A dangerous cross into the box late on by Nicholas Fitzgerald almost proved the difference, although the ball evaded Matt Simon and Mitchell Duke to see the game end in a stalemate.

The draw leaves Tony Popovic's men bottom of the table, while fellow strugglers Mariners are five points better off in eighth place.
