Jonny Evans scores late as West Bromwich Albion beat Stoke City

West Bromwich Albion record a 2-1 win over 10-man Stoke City in the Premier League following a late strike from Jonny Evans.

Jonny Evans scored in the third minute of stoppage time as West Bromwich Albion recorded a 2-1 win over Stoke City in their Premier League clash at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

It did appear that Jonathan Walters's 81st-minute strike would be enough to secure a share of the spoils for the Potters, who had fallen behind to a strike from Stephane Sessegnon in the 60th minute.

However, Evans bundled home late on as the Baggies made use of their one-man advantage after Stoke had Geoff Cameron sent off in the 83rd minute of action.

It was West Brom that had the best two chances of the first 45 minutes, but Evans missed from a corner in the 15th minute, before Darren Fletcher screwed his effort wide of the post after strong work from Sessegnon in the latter stages of the first period.

The hosts were ahead on the hour, however, when James Morrison set up Sessegnon, who made no mistake from close range.

Stoke had to bide their time against a well-drilled outfit, but the in-form Potters, who had won their last two in the league entering this match, were level in the 81st minute when Walters headed a Joselu cross into the back of the net.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute, however, when Cameron was given a straight red card after clashing with Claudio Yacob.

The two teams entered stoppage time all square, but West Brom secured all the points when Evans converted from close range after Craig Dawson had met a cross from Callum McManaman.

The result has left West Brom in 12th position in the Premier League table, while Stoke remain 10th after their seventh league defeat of the season.
