Watford injury, suspension list ahead of first game back

Sports Mole rounds up Watford's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their first Premier League game back against Leicester City.

Watford's battle to remain in the Premier League will resume with a clash against Leicester City on June 20.

The Premier League confirmed on Friday that the contest would be Saturday's early start on the first weekend that England's top flight resumes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Hornets suffered a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last game on March 7, which left them 17th in the table, only ahead of 18th-placed Bournemouth on goal difference.

Nigel Pearson's side will be determined to return to winning ways on their return to action, although they face a tough assignment against a Leicester side currently secure in the top four.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the team's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their first game back against the Foxes on June 20.

Gerard Deulofeu

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Deulofeu has been on the sidelines since suffering a serious knee injury against Liverpool at the end of February. It is unclear whether the Spaniard will be able to play a part for Watford before the end of the season, although he will definitely not be involved in the team's first game back.

Daryl Janmaat

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Janmaat is still struggling to overcome a troublesome knee problem and last went to see a specialist about the issue in the middle of April. As it stands, there has not been a date set for the defender's possible return, but like Deulofeu, he will not be available for selection against Leicester.

Jose Holebas

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: June 20 (vs. Leicester)

Holebas stepped up his recovery from a fractured foot in the middle of April, progressing onto the anti-gravity treadmill. The 35-year-old has not been involved in the Premier League since New Year's Day, though, and is a major doubt for the clash with Brendan Rodgers's side.

Isaac Success

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Success is currently working his way back from a hamstring operation; it was reported in the middle of April that he had returned to the gym, but the attacker will not be involved on June 20.

Adrian Mariappa

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: June 20 (vs. Leicester)

Mariappa tested positive for coronavirus after the first round of Premier League checks; the defender is now free from the illness and has returned to training, though, suggesting that he should be involved on June 20.

WATFORD'S SUSPENSION LIST

Watford have no suspension concerns heading into their next fixture.
