Jermain Defoe says that Tottenham Hotspur can achieve success this season after their win over West Ham United.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has insisted that his side can achieve something this season after their win over West Ham United.

The England forward netted a brace as Spurs cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Hammers at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The win lifts the North Londoners up to seventh in the table, and Defoe believes that Tottenham can challenge for honours this year.

"[The performance against West Ham] was good, not only the goals but the performance as well. The manager wanted a reaction today and I thought the whole performance from the first minute was fantastic," said Defoe.

"We had great energy and great tempo. It's how we should be playing at home and overall we were the better side and deserved the three points.

"I just want to keep [my goalscoring] going. Keep helping my team get three points and hopefully achieve something special this season. It's a long way to go yet but we're all working hard and hopefully we can go on a run now."

Spurs host Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday.
