A sixth loss of the season has seen Elie Baup's team slip three points behind league leaders Lyon.

Sloan Privat and Cedric Bakambu both found the net in the opening 45 minutes to give the home side the advantage.

A disastrous own goal from Jeremy Morel put Sochaux further in front a minute into the second half, but Marseille gave themselves a lifeline on 55 minutes through Jordan Ayew's long-range strike.

The visitors were given another boost soon after when Sochaux's Joseph Romeric Lopy was sent off following his second yellow card of the match.

Nicolas N'Koulou then hit the woodwork for Marseille with a header as they failed to add to their tally.
