Sheffield Wednesday pick up a deserved three points against struggling Peterborough United with a 2-1 win at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday recorded a deserved 2-1 victory over a poor Peterborough United side at Hillborough this afternoon with goals from Ross Barkley and Miguel Llera.

Dave Jones's side started brightly and fired early warning shots through Michail Antonio and Jay Bothroyd, neither of whom troubled Robert Olejnik.

The visitors were outplayed in the early stages, but they created an early opportunity when George Boyd's strike forced a save from Chris Kirkland.

The Owls continued to bombard Olejnik's goal, with Barkley testing him on 13 minutes and Llera heading over from a corner moments later.

Jones's men had to wait until early in the second period to take the lead. Everton loanee Barkley found space inside the area and rifled into the top corner.

Wednesday were by far the superior side throughout, and they helped themselves to a deserved second through a Llera header on 76 minutes to make it 2-0.

Boyd pulled one back for Peterborough late on, finding the net from deep inside the penalty area, but it proved to be little more than consolation.
