Newcastle Jets secure last-gasp draw against Western Sydney Wanderers

Adam Taggart scores a late equaliser as Newcastle Jets secure a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League.

A late Adam Taggart goal has secured a draw for Newcastle Jets against Western Sydney Wanderers at the Hunter Stadium in the A-League.

The Wanderers started well and had plenty of early possession. However, their play in the final third was poor, and they struggled to create any decent chances.

The Jets came back and took the lead with 25 minutes played. Andrew Hoole lost the ball, but it ran through to Taggart, who fired in a long-range effort.

Craig Goodwin then forced Ante Covic into a good stop as the home side began to take control.

However, the visitors managed to equalise with just a minute remaining in the first half when Aaron Mooy fired his free kick into the top corner.

Taggart had an early effort in the second half, but Covic punched the ball out to safety, and the resulting corner saw Taggart strike over the bar.

Matthew Spiranovic then somehow put the ball over from a few yards out.

However, the Wanderers soon edged ahead. Mark Birighitti failed to take control of the situation, and Joshua Brillante's clearance hit Michael Beauchamp and rolled in.

Taggart saw another effort saved by Covic, but Labinot Haliti came close to making it 3-1 with a powerful shot that Birighitti did well to keep out.

However, Taggart poked home to make it 2-2 with 89 minutes on the clock.
