Aitor Karanka: 'Middlesbrough deserve Premier League football'

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka is determined to achieve promotion next season after failing in the Championship playoff final.

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka has already targeted promotion to the Premier League next season after failing to win the Championship playoff final against Norwich City this afternoon.

Karanka's side went down 2-0 at Wembley to fall short of promotion, meaning that they will have a seventh straight season in the Championship next term.

"This season was a big step forward from last season and we have to keep going in the same way because this club, this crowd and this city deserves to be in the Premier League," Karanka told Sky Sports News.

"I am going to start preparing for next season tomorrow because that is my job. We didn't get promotion this season, so hopefully next season."

With defeat today, Boro have lost all five of their matches at Wembley.
