A report claims that Liverpool are unwilling to bow to Emre Can's wage demands and now risk losing the midfielder at the end of the season when his deal expires.

Liverpool are reportedly resigned to losing Emre Can at the end of the season as the midfielder is no closer to agreeing a new contract at Anfield.

The Germany international, linked heavily with Juventus over the past year, will become a free agent next summer unless he puts pen to paper on fresh terms in the next six months.

Juve have already confirmed that they will renew their interest in Can next year, with the Italian giants able to begin formal discussions as early as January.

Liverpool had hoped to keep the 23-year-old in place for at least another season but, according to The Mirror, the player's wage demands are simply too high within the context of the Reds' pay structure.

The report suggests that Can was offered a maximum of £70,000 a week, falling substantially short of the £160,000 he was holding out for - the same as top-earner Philippe Coutinho - which will likely open the door for an exit in 2018.
