Brendan Rodgers says that he will not throw Luis Suarez "to the garbage" like everyone else following the FA's decision to suspend the striker for 10 games.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that striker Luis Suarez has been "thrown to the garbage" following his bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

The Northern Irishman has admitted that the Merseyside outfit are "bitterly disappointed" with the Football Association for giving Suarez a 10-match ban for the incident during the Reds' 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

Despite insisting that the 26-year-old made a mistake, the former Swansea City boss has revealed that he does not feel 'let down' by the ex-Ajax frontman.

"If I had more players of a similar mentality, we would be in a different position. He has not let me down one bit," Rodgers said in a press conference.

"The standard set by the club - he fell way below that at the weekend. But it does not mean he should be thrown to the garbage, which is what has happened over the last couple of days."

Rodgers also revealed that the club are yet to receive the written reasons behind the lengthy suspension.
