Guy Demel: 'West Ham United were unlucky'

West Ham defender Guy Demel believes that he and his teammates were unlucky to lose to Liverpool on Sunday.

Guy Demel has claimed that West Ham United were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

The defender cancelled out Steven Gerrard's opener at Upton Park before a controversial Gerrard penalty sealed the win for the visitors.

However, Demel believes that the Hammers should have come away from the match with at least a point.

"I think we played really well as a team and we were a bit unlucky at the end," he told the club's official website. "I think it's the type of performance that we have to keep on [producing]. At the beginning of the season we played good football and kept losing games and Sunday was kind of the same, because I think we played really well.

"I've never seen Liverpool being such in a tough position, they lost so many balls because we put pressure on them and we had chances as well. But again, that's football, on Sunday we were pretty unlucky with the referee's decisions, but we have to move on."

West Ham are back in action on April 15 when they travel to Arsenal in the league.
