Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Monterrey

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey.

Liverpool begin their quest to become the world's best team on Wednesday when they face Mexican side and CONCACAF champions Monterrey in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup.

Jurgen Klopp's side are bidding to win the trophy for the first time in their history following their sixth European crown last season, and they head to Qatar in relentless form.

Saturday's 2-0 win over Watford means that they are now 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and across all competitions this term they have won 33 of their 36 outings.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's match, with the senior squad travelling to Qatar while a second-string selection stays at home for the EFL Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: December 18 (vs. Monterrey)

Georginio Wijnaldum added to Liverpool's growing injury list when he limped off against Watford on Saturday, although he has been included in the 20-man travelling squad to Qatar. Klopp is unlikely to take any risks over the Dutchman, though, so he is still a major doubt for Wednesday's game.

Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

There is no timescale on Dejan Lovren's return after he limped off for a second successive game against Red Bull Salzburg. The centre-back has not travelled to Qatar as he focuses on returning to fitness.

Fabinho

Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Fabinho is expected to be sidelined until 2020 with the ankle injury he sustained last month, although no exact timeframe has been put on his return.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: January 2 (vs. Sheffield United)

Joel Matip continues to struggle with a knee injury which is likely to keep him sidelined until the turn of the year, adding to Liverpool's defensive shortage.

Nathaniel Clyne

Possible return date: Unknown

Nathaniel Clyne is Liverpool's longest-term absentee having been injured since pre-season, and no return date is yet in sight for the full-back.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no suspensions to worry about for this match.
