Half-Time Report: Chances squandered at the Liberty Stadium

Swansea City and Liverpool both miss clear opportunities during the opening 45 minutes of Brendan Rodgers's return to the Liberty Stadium.

Both Swansea City and Liverpool squandered chances in what was a goalless opening 45 minutes at the Liberty Stadium.

The first goalscoring opportunity went the way of the home side when Wayne Routledge saw his curling effort from inside the area turned away for a corner by Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Visiting Liverpool then had two sights of goal in quick succession. First Jose Enrique saw his chested effort skid wide of the target, before full-back Glen Johnson was denied by the feet of Gerhard Tremmel in the Swansea goal.

Up the other end, Jonathan de Guzman wasted Swansea's best chance for a goal when he shot wide in the 31st minute despite having teammates providing him with options inside the area.

In the closing stages England winger Raheem Sterling struck the crossbar for Liverpool from distance, while Enrique saw a goal chalked off for offside following a deep cross from Luis Suarez.

Victory for Liverpool in Wales would send them into the top ten of the Premier League table.
