Half-Time Report: Marco Matias goal gives Sheffield Wednesday half-time lead

Marco Matias scores a looping volley to give Sheffield Wednesday the lead against Leeds United.

Sheffield Wednesday lead against Leeds United 1-0 at half time thanks to a Marco Matias goal.

Matias looked bright for Sheffield Wednesday in the opening stages but failed to test Marco Silvestri with two attempts.

New Leeds United signing Stuart Dallas nearly hit the back of the net from long range after 10 minutes, but his shot flew just over the crossbar.

Mirco Antenucci came close to breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute when he fired a left-footed volley wide of the target.

It was a midfield battle throughout the first half, but Marco Matias brought the game to life in the 37th minute when he flicked the ball over Liam Cooper's head before volleying over Silvestri into the back of the net.
