Hugo Lloris: 'Paul Pogba must become leader for France'

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris calls on teammate Paul Pogba to become "a leader" for France at this summer's World Cup.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has suggested that Paul Pogba must show his leadership qualities for France at this summer's World Cup.

Pogba has been regarded as one of the world's best players for a number of seasons, but the Manchester United midfielder has not always produced his best form since moving to Old Trafford in 2016.

However, skipper Lloris has called on the 52-cap star to rise to the challenge of acting as one of the national team's role models both on and off the pitch.

The 31-year-old told reporters: "Paul is no longer a young player. He has collected experience with his club and with the national team.

"He has a lot of talent and that label has stuck with him since the beginning. He has had a very good season, although people still debate it. As a football player and as a football fan, I think he had a very good season.

"He has this desire to shine with the French national team. Will he be the 'boss'? That's a strong word but a 'leader' is what is expected of him on and off the field."

France will face Australia, Peru and Denmark in the group stages of the tournament.
