Javier Aguirre pleased with start to season

Espanyol boss Javier Aguirre says that he has been pleased with the club's start to the season.

Espanyol boss Javier Aguirre is refusing to look too far ahead despite the club's positive start to the season.

Monday's 3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao, which extended their unbeaten start, moved the club into fifth position in the table.

"The start was key, players do not want a repeat of last year because the experience is still very fresh. We are like the ant, collecting points now for when the famine comes," he told reporters at a press conference.

"Long-term goals? We have to think about the next game. It's a cliche, but it's what we do. Last season we were fine until we started talking about Europe and everything went wrong."

Espanyol travel to Villarreal on Thursday.
