Nathan Redmond: England Under-21s still "upbeat"

England Under-21s winger Nathan Redmond insists that the squad is still "upbeat" despite losing their opening match at the European Under-21 Championship.

Nathan Redmond has insisted that England Under-21s are still "upbeat" ahead of their second match at the European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic.

Gareth Southgate's Young Lions were one of the pre-tournament favourites, but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Portugal in their first match.

Ahead of the team's clash with Sweden later today, the Norwich City winger told reporters: "Over the past two years, with what we've achieved as a group and how we are off the pitch, we can go into the game tomorrow looking to win.

"We're all upbeat and on a high so it's good to see, we're going into the game with enthusiasm and we're looking forward to the challenge. Over the past two years, the bond we've created off the pitch as well as on the pitch, it's something special.

"All the lads are determined and enthusiastic just to get going in the next game. Every time we've had a dip we want to get into the next game and rectify it. So I'm confident and I'm sure that the lads will find it in them."

England were unbeaten in their qualifying campaign for this tournament.
