China progress through to knock-out stages, New Zealand go home

Hannah Wilkinson earns New Zealand a point but they exit the Women's World Cup after a 2-2 draw with China.

New Zealand have been knocked out of the Women's World Cup after a 2-2 draw with China.

Rebekah Stott gave New Zealand the lead just before the half-hour mark, scoring past Wang Fei following a corner.

China replied from the penalty spot shortly before the break thanks to Wang Lisi.

After half time, China gained the advantage when Wang Shanshan beat Erin Nayler to a cross, but New Zealand equalised through Hannah Wilkinson four minutes later.

That changed the momentum of the match as New Zealand dominated in the final half-hour, but they couldn't find the winning goal.

Annalie Longo twice went close with close-range efforts, while she forced Wang Fei into a late low save.

The result sends China through to the last 16.
