Sports Mole counts down the top 10 Champions League goals of matchday two, featuring the likes of Erling Braut Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Raheem Sterling.

Matchday two of the 2022-23 Champions League season saw 37 goals fly in across the 16 fixtures, including some late, late drama.

The standout ties included Bayern Munich vs. Barcelona, Manchester City vs. Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool vs. Ajax, and there were mixed fortunes for the English clubs as Man City and Liverpool won late while Tottenham Hotspur lost and Chelsea were held in their first match under Graham Potter.

Here, Sports Mole counts down the top 10 Champions League goals of the week, featuring some of the biggest names in football.

10. Edin Dzeko (Viktoria Plzen vs. INTER MILAN)

He may be 36, but Edin Dzeko shows no sign of slowing down and he supplied another classy finish to add to his collection against Plzen, stroking the ball into the far corner from a wide angle.

9. Kylian Mbappe (Maccabi Haifa vs. PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN)

Another game, another goal for Kylian Mbappe, whose first-time finish was unerring after being slipped through by a perfectly-weighted through-ball from Lionel Messi.

8. Mykhaylo Mudryk (SHAKHTAR DONETSK vs. Celtic)

Mykhaylo Mudryk's star continues to rise following an eye-catching start to his Champions League campaign, and he showcased his pace and finishing prowess again to earn his side a point against Celtic.

7. Federico Valverde (REAL MADRID vs. RB Leipzig)

Vinicius Junior deserves much of the praise for his build-up play, but Federico Valverde still had plenty to do as he cut inside and planted his finish into the bottom corner to break the deadlock for Real Madrid.

6. Raheem Sterling (CHELSEA vs. Red Bull Salzburg)

Potter's first game in charge of Chelsea ultimately ended in disappointment, but Raheem Sterling at least got it up and running in some style with a fine finish into the bottom corner.

5. Tjaronn Chery (MACCABI HAIFA vs. Paris Saint-Germain)

Messi, Mbappe and Neymar may have stolen the headlines by each getting on the scoresheet, but former Queens Park Rangers attacker Tjaronn Chery outshone the star-studded trio with the pick of the goals from that game, briefly giving Maccabi Haifa a shock lead with a well-controlled volley.

4. Marco Asensio (REAL MADRID vs. RB Leipzig)

Madrid left it last against Leipzig, but Marco Asensio's brilliant curling strike into the top corner made the final scoreline look a little more comfortable.

3. John Stones (MANCHESTER CITY vs. Borussia Dortmund)

Sure, the goalkeeper maybe should have done better, but John Stones caught his thunderbolt so cleanly, and got so much power and swerve on it, that it would have taken a superb reaction stop for it to be kept out.

2. Mohammed Kudus (Liverpool vs. AJAX)

It looked for a long time as though Mohammed Kudus's unstoppable, thunderous strike in off the underside of the crossbar might earn Ajax a point at Anfield, but the attacker can still look back on the howitzer with pride despite Liverpool's late winner.

1. Erling Braut Haaland (MANCHESTER CITY vs. Borussia Dortmund)

A clear winner for this week's countdown, and an early contender for Champions League goal of the season. Joao Cancelo's audacious outside-of-the-boot cross was good enough without the addition of a spectacular acrobatic finish from the relentless goalscoring machine that is Erling Braut Haaland, earning him comparisons with the likes of Johan Cruyff and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
