Returning Jordan Rhodes fires Blackburn Rovers to win

Jordan Rhodes scores both goals on his return to the Blackburn Rovers side as they beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 at Ewood Park in the Championship.

A returning Jordan Rhodes struck a brace as Blackburn Rovers beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 in the Championship at Ewood Park.

Rhodes was thwarted early on, but the Scotland striker was not to be denied and he gave Rovers the lead after just six minutes when he steered a finish beyond Addicks keeper Nick Pope.

Rovers almost doubled their advantage two minutes later, but Rudy Gestede's goal-bound shot was bravely headed over by Morgan Fox.

The home side continued to press and Ben Marshall's surge forward resulted in him almost picking out Gestede, but the Charlton defence managed to divert the danger away for a corner.

Rhodes struck his second of the afternoon when he walked the ball into the net after getting to it ahead of Pope and taking it past the visiting goalkeeper.

Igor Vetokele headed down to Johann Gudmunsson on the hour mark, but his snap-shot was comfortably held by Jason Steele as Charlton searched for a goal.

Marshall and David Dunn both had chances to extend Blackburn's winning margin in the final 15 minutes, but Pope was equal to both efforts.
