Fuller stunner helps Charlton beat Peterborough

Charlton Athletic beat Peterborough United 2-0 in the Championship clash at The Valley.

A stunning goal from Ricardo Fuller and a second from Yann Kermorgant gave Charlton Athletic a 2-0 win over Peterborough this evening.

Charlton began to dominate following the opening exchanges as Emmanuel Frimpong powered through the Peterborough defence and saw his effort deflected wide.

The away side were set up in a solid formation, sometimes playing five at the back to make it difficult for the Addicks to break them down.

Fuller's fine piece of skill allowed him to skip past the defender, though his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper.

Posh's first real chance of the game fell to new signing Dwight Gayle, who headed the ball just over after a good leap.

Bradley Pritchard almost gave Charlton the lead in the second half with a diving head, but his effort just hit the outside of the post.

Gayle had another chance for Peterborough, though his low shot was saved by Ben Hamer.

Fuller gave the home side the lead after 77 minutes, picking up the ball from 30 yards out and blasting into the top corner. The Jamaican hurt himself in the process, though, and was replaced by Rob Hulse.

Kermorgant seemingly secured all three points for Chris Powell's side on 84 minutes, spraying the ball wide before finishing off the cross to the back post to make it 2-0.

The final whistle blew with Charlton claiming all three points.
