Brazil women crash out of home Olympics in Rio

Brazil's women crash out of their home Olympics in Rio courtesy of a penalty shootout defeat to Sweden in the semi-final.

Brazil's women's team have crashed out of their home Olympics courtesy of a penalty shootout defeat to Sweden.

The hosts were amongst the favourites for gold in Rio, but Sweden pulled off their second shock in as many rounds to book their place in the final.

Having beaten reigning Olympic champions USA in the quarter-finals, Sweden added the scalp of Brazil courtesy of a 4-3 shootout victory.

Lisa Dahlkvist scored the deciding spot kick to seal Sweden's progress after the 120 minutes had ended goalless.

Sweden will take on either Canada or Germany in Saturday's final, while Brazil will have a chance to win bronze against the losers of the second semi-final.
