Gillingham bounce back to beat Bradford City

A James Hanson own goal and a strike from Luke Norris give Gillingham a 2-1 win over Bradford City.

Gillingham recovered from going a goal behind to beat Bradford City 2-1 at the Coral Windows Stadium this evening and keep up the early pressure on Coventry City at the top of League One.

The visitors started the game brightly and had two chances to take the lead inside the opening five minutes, both of which fell to Luke Norris.

The Gills striker first curled an effort narrowly wide of goal, then placed his close-range header straight at Bradford goalkeeper Ben Williams.

Phil Parkinson's side then punished their guests' wastefulness as they took the lead against the run of play when James Hanson tapped home from Billy Knott's cross for his second goal of the season.

Bradley Dack's powerful strike from range drew a diving save from Williams as the visitors searched for an equaliser, which almost came when Adedeji Oshilaja's effort was hacked clear by Rory McArdle.

Rory Donnelly dragged a volley wide of goal after McArdle had only cleared Josh Wright's cross as far as the edge of the area as Gillingham began the second half just as they had begun the first.

This time, however, they found the goal their play warranted when Norris hammered the ball into the bottom corner to level the tie.

Justin Edinburgh's side then took the lead when Oshilaja's header went in off Hanson, with the goal going down against the Bradford man.

Substitute Steve Davies came close to rescuing a draw for the Bantams when he controlled Knott's long ball and fired towards goal late on, but Stuart Nelson was equal to his effort.
