Late Kevin Phillips goal earns Leicester City win

Leicester City leave it late to beat Bournemouth and earn a ninth straight win in the Championship.

Leicester City extended their lead at the top of the Championship to 10 points after a late goal from Kevin Phillips saw off a resilient Bournemouth at Dean Court.

Nigel Pearson's side settled well after surviving an early effort from Andrew Surman, and then tested the Cherries defence with efforts from Lloyd Dyer, Danny Drinkwater and Marcin Wasilewski.

Jamie Vardy enjoyed arguably the best chance of the first half for the away side when his shot produced a wonderful save from Lee Camp.

The Bournemouth shot-stopper on hand again to keep out both Dyer and David Nugent's efforts in quick succession.

Eddie Howe's side struggled to find an attacking edge early on, but did go close to taking the lead when Ian Harte's cross was headed narrowly over the bar by Tommy Elphick.

After the interval, Bournemouth began to trouble the Foxes defence with Lewis Grabban having several chances to break the deadlock.

Instead, it was Phillips who came off the bench and met Anthony Knockaert's pinpoint cross to head home from close range.

Bournemouth tried to find a late equaliser, but ran out of time as Leicester extended the winning run to nine games.
