Vincent Kompany believes that he and a handful of his Belgium teammates improve the national side by competing in the Premier League.

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany believes that playing in the Premier League has helped him and his Belgium teammates improve the national side.

Kompany, along with Marouane Fellaini, Mousa Dembele, Christian Benteke and Eden Hazard, compete in the top flight of English football.

"When you play in the Premier League you mature quickly," Sky Sports News quotes Kompany as saying. "The intensity and aggressiveness give you the ability to cope with pressure situations and this helps in the national team because we are used to playing at that high pace. We have all improved."

The Belgian side, which were ranked as 71st in the world rankings in 2007, are now deemed the 12th best nation on the globe.
