Lothar Matthaus: 'Thomas Muller should stay at Bayern Munich'

Former Bayern Munich defender Lothar Matthaus says that Thomas Muller "does not need" to join either Manchester United or Chelsea in order to fulfil his goals.

Former Bayern Munich defender Lothar Matthaus has urged Thomas Muller to turn down any interest from the Premier League in order to remain with the German giants.

Muller, 26, has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, while Chelsea are also believed to be in the running to sign the German international.

However, Matthaus, who represented Bayern between 1984 and 1988, has said that the attacker can fulfill all of his goals at the Allianz Arena.

"He does not need Manchester United or Chelsea," Matthaus has been quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

"My opinion is he should definitely stay at Bayern for his lifetime. He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here. He does not need any new challenge as he is always playing at the highest level every year at Bayern."

Muller, who is believed to be considering a move to England, has scored 20 times in 21 appearances for Bayern this season.
