Diego writes apology to Wolfsburg fans ahead of return

Brazilian midfielder Diego writes a letter to Wolfsburg as he prepares to return to the Bundesliga after a season in exile at Atletico Madrid.

Brazilian playmaker Diego has written a letter of apology to Wolfsburg fans as he prepares to return to the club this season.

Diego was suspended by Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath last season and sent out on loan to Atletcio Madrid after walking out on a team meeting before a league match against Hoffenheim.

The midfielder wrote an open letter to Wolfsburg fans, published on the club's official website.

He said: "I know that I disappointed many of you at the end of the season before last, even though I was welcomed so warmly here in Wolfsburg.

"My family and I have always been happy here and now we are back living in our home together and hit is simply a good feeling.

"I apologised to our coach last season and I have learnt from my mistake."

Magath said that he has forgiven Diego and it is time to move on and focus on the new Bundesliga season.

"Diego is a Champions League player and a player of his class increases the chances of us reaching one of the top places in the table," he said.

"Diego will get the number 10 shirt. He is a central player who can bring his team mates into the game and score goals himself."

The 27-year-old was impressive in helping Atletico win the Europa League last season, scoring in the final against Athletic Bilbao.
