Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joins an exclusive club with his 10th Premier League away clean sheet of the season in Sunday's 2-0 win at Newcastle United.

Arsenal number one Aaron Ramsdale has joined an exclusive club of goalkeepers with his clean sheet in Sunday's 2-0 win at Newcastle United.

Prior to the trip to St James' Park, the England international had conceded at least one goal in eight successive games across all tournaments since March's 3-0 win at Fulham.

Ramsdale faced a barrage of Newcastle attacks throughout the afternoon, but the 24-year-old produced an exemplary showing to keep the Magpies at bay, making five crucial saves in the North East.

One of Ramsdale's quintet of stops was a stunning reaction save to keep out a close-range Fabian Schar header, as the Englishman collected his 13th Premier League clean sheet of the season.

Ten of Ramsdale's top-flight shutouts this term have come on the road, and the 24-year-old has now become only the third goalkeeper to hit the double-figure mark for away clean sheets in a single season.

The only two previous shot-stoppers to do so were Petr Cech and Ederson, the former of whom kept 11 on the road for Chelsea in 2004-05 before also posting 10 in the 2008-09 campaign.

Meanwhile, Manchester City number one Ederson had 11 clean sheets on rival turf in the 2018-19 season while also racking up 10 away shutouts during the 2021-22 campaign.

Ramsdale is one of three Premier League goalkeepers sitting on 13 clean sheets in total this season, the others being Alisson Becker and Nick Pope, while Manchester United's David de Gea leads the way with 15.

While the ex-Bournemouth and Sheffield United man was being kept busy at his end of the field, Arsenal capitalised on Newcastle's lack of ruthlessness to keep themselves in with a fighting chance of top-flight glory.

Martin Odegaard picked out the bottom corner from 25 yards in the first half before a Schar own goal sealed the deal for the Gunners, who gained a slice of revenge for their 2-0 loss to the Magpies in this fixture 12 months ago.

That defeat and subsequent dressing room reaction was prominently featured in their All or Nothing documentary with Amazon, and Ramsdale revealed that Mikel Arteta made his players watch those clips back before Sunday's game to invoke a "burning desire" for vengeance.

"It (last year's game) wasn't mentioned until the meeting just before we left the hotel. The manager showed us a clip from the documentary last year, showed all of our faces, staff included, showing how hurt we were feeling," Ramsdale told Sky Sports News.

"We had that burning desire as soon as we left the hotel that it wasn't going to be the same today. It may have given us extra motivation. When we needed to dig deep, it really helped us.

"Immense pride and a bit of relief as well, especially with the talk of what happened last year, to come here and put on a performance. We wanted to impose ourselves onto the game and the crowd."

Arsenal have guaranteed a top-two finish in the Premier League and are only one point behind Manchester City with three matches left to play, although the leaders possess a game in hand.

Next up for Arteta's men is the visit of European hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion on May 14.
