How Arsenal could line up against Brighton & Hove Albion

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for their Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal will be looking to put their crushing defeat against Manchester City behind them when they travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners were taught a footballing lesson by Pep Guardiola's side upon Mikel Arteta's return to the Etihad, and their first Premier League defeat of 2020 means that Arsenal's hopes of a top-four finish are looking all the more slim.

While the result itself makes for bleak reading, Arteta also lost Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injuries early on before David Luiz's torrid evening was brought to an abrupt end when he was sent off for a foul on Riyad Mahrez.

With that in mind, Sports Mole looks at how Arteta's side could line up against Brighton for the Premier League's first ever televised 3pm Saturday game.

Following the first-half injuries to Mari and Xhaka in midweek, Arteta is facing a difficult selection dilemma when it comes to the trip to the South Coast.

Things nearly went from bad to worse for the Arsenal manager when Shkodran Mustafi felt the full force of a Raheem Sterling challenge, but the German centre-back was able to finish the match and should be in line for another start on Saturday.

With Mari and Chambers injured and Luiz suspended, Arteta will be hoping that Sokratis recovers from a knock which kept him out of the defeat to City, although Rob Holding is another option in the heart of defence.

Xhaka's absence means that Dani Ceballos and Matteo Guendouzi are likely to form a midfield partnership, with Lucas Torreira still recovering from the fractured ankle he sustained against Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

Up top, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a shoo-in, and Alexandre Lacazette could spearhead the attack in place of Eddie Nketiah. Nicolas Pepe is also pushing for a recall having been named on the bench for Wednesday's game.

Nketiah's fellow academy graduates Bukayo Saka and Joe Willock both have a chance of making the starting lineup for the second game in a row - the latter in particular following Mesut Ozil's absence from the matchday squad against City.

Saka has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances at left-back and the teenager may replace Kieran Tierney in defence, with the former Celtic man unlikely to be risked given his injury woes this season.
