Chris Sutton claims that Arsenal tying Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new three-year deal was the worst bit of business of the summer transfer window.

Former England striker Chris Sutton believes that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contract extension at Arsenal was the worst piece of transfer business over the summer.

After months of speculation surrounding the Gabon international's future, Aubameyang put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the Emirates Stadium despite reported interest from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

However, Aubameyang has failed to hit his usual heights since committing his future to Mikel Arteta's side, and Sutton has now labelled the 31-year-old's extension as the worst signing of the transfer window.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Sutton said: "The worst? We were all told that Arsenal tying down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be like a new signing and, after a lot of hullabaloo, he put pen to paper.

"Since then, he's scored once from the spot. If fans were at stadiums, he wouldn't exactly have had them on the edge of their seats."

Aubameyang, who has been deployed on the left-hand side of attack for much of his time at Arsenal, boasts just three goals this season in all competitions.
