Thomas Partey is reportedly set to miss Arsenal's opening Premier League fixture away at Brentford due to an ankle injury.

The Ghanaian midfielder picked up a knock during last weekend's pre-season friendly against London rivals Chelsea and underwent a scan on Monday.

According to the Evening Standard, Partey's initial diagnosis is not as serious as first feared and the 28-year-old could be on the sidelines for a few weeks.

The report also states that the midfielder is to see an ankle specialist and have further tests to identify the severity of damage cause to his ligaments.

As well as missing the opening clash against Brentford, Partey is also likely to miss league encounters against Chelsea and Manchester City, before the international break in September.

Partey was also hampered with a hip injury for much of last season, though he was able to make 38 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners.
