Michael Vaughan backs Jason Gillespie for England job

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie would be the ideal replacement for under-fire Peter Moores in the England set-up.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed Jason Gillespie to become the team's new head coach in the wake of their exit from the Cricket World Cup.

The Three Lions fell to an ignominious defeat at the hands of Bangladesh to seal their fate earlier this week, making their final group game against Afghanistan on Friday a dead rubber.

Incumbent coach Peter Moores has seen his position come under heavy scrutiny as a result, and Vaughan believes that former Australia Test bowler Gillespie would be the ideal man to replace him.

"I just think he's got that knowhow, he's got that manner, he's got that laid-back approach," Vaughan told BBC Sport.

"He's a guy that would take pressure off rather than put pressure on, I think that's what's required at the highest level. It's all about managing players at the highest level, not too much about coaching."

However, Gillespie, who is the current coach of Yorkshire, has played down suggestions that he could take the England job.
