England have edged closer to victory over the West Indies after day three of the first Test at Lord's.

Starting on 259-3, the hosts lost their first wicket of the day when Andrew Strauss was caught by Denesh Ramdin off the bowling of Kemar Roach having added just a single run to his overnight score of 121.

Ian Bell was able to push the hosts along before he was caught by Ricardo Powell from Shannon Gabriel on 61.

Jonny Bairstow [16], Matt Prior [19], Stuart Broad [10] and Graeme Swann [30] all made respectable knocks as England were eventually bowled out for 398 to give them a lead of 155.

The Windies got off to a bad start for their second innings as Adrian Barath was caught by Prior off the bowling of Bresnan for 24.

It got worse when Kieran Powell fell victim to Broad for eight before Kirk Edwards was run out for a duck with a direct hit from Bairstow.

Darren Bravo put up minimal resistance as he went to the spin of Broad on 21, but Shivnarine Chanderpaul [36 not out] and Marlon Samuels [24 not out] will hope to made it difficult for England on day four.
