Malaysian competitors to pay tribute to crash victims

The Malaysian Commonwealth Games committee confirms that all 185 athletes will wear black armbands during the opening ceremony to respect the victims of the MH17 tragedy.

The Malaysian Commonwealth Games team will pay tribute to the victims of the Malaysian Airlines tragedy during the opening ceremony in Glasgow tomorrow night.

Forty-three Malaysians were among those who died on Flight MH17, which was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down in Ukraine last Thursday.

Chef de mission Datuk Ong Poh Eng told BBC Sport that all 185 competitors from the Asian nation will wear black armbands.

All 298 on board last week's flight - including two Newcastle United supporters - died.
