Usain Bolt: 'I will race in relay heats'

100m record holder Usain Bolt confirms that he will participate in the 4x100m heats in Glasgow next week.

Usain Bolt has confirmed that he will run in the 4x100m relay heats at the Commonwealth Games.

The 100m world record holder touched down in Glasgow today to prepare for his first competitive race of the season since being sidelined with a hamstring injury in March.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, Bolt revealed that he will be helping his Jamaican teammates through the qualifying stages of the event next week.

"I think I need the runs really," he said. "This is my first run of the season so I need to get it going."

Bolt has never appeared at a Commonwealth Games before, having missed Melbourne 2006 through injury and Delhi 2010 due to the World Championships, but insisted that he had been determined to make it to Scotland.

"For me it was very important [to be here]," he said. "I expressed to my coach early in the season that I wanted to do this. Now I'm happy just to be here."

The men's 4x100m heats take place Friday night at Hampden Park.
