Jamaica's Yohan Blake ruled out for season

Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake will miss the rest of the 2014 season after undergoing surgery, his coach Glen Mills confirms.

Two-time Olympic silver-medal winner Yohan Blake has been ruled out for the rest of the 2014 season after undergoing hamstring surgery, his coach has confirmed.

Blake had chosen not to compete at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to focus on his preparations for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, but he has now suffered a further delay to his recovery.

"Right now he's on crutches, he had to have an operation a couple of days ago," Blake's coach Glen Mills told Reuters.

"The injury was quite severe and the original prognosis was misdiagnosed and he went Germany and when they had a good look, they realised that it was more serious and required surgery, so he'll be out for quite a long time."

The 24-year-old picked up the injury at an event in Glasgow on July 11.
