Quarterback Greg McElroy is released by the New York Jets as part of their final cuts for the 2013 NFL season.

Greg McElroy was among 21 players released by the New York Jets yesterday.

The quarterback, who briefly replaced Mark Sanchez as the team's starter before sustaining a concussion last season, had been with the team since 2011.

Sanchez is one of four quarterbacks named on the AFC East side's 53-man roster, joining Geno Smith, Matt Simms and Graham Harrell on the active list.

As well as making cuts, running back Mike Goodson was moved to the reserve suspended list ahead of his four-game ban for breaching the league's substance abuse policy.
