International Olympic Committee insists Sanki track is safe

The International Olympic Committee has stressed that the incident at the Sanki Sliding Centre which left a worker hospitalised was not due to a problem with the bobsleigh track.

The man underwent an operation after suffering two broken legs following the incident where he was struck by an empty forerunner sleigh. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

At the daily IOC press briefing, Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Sochi 2014 organising committee, told reporters: "The track is absolutely safe. Yesterday, right after the incident, we continued with training and then competition.

"The track is in the highest possible standard of safety."

United States bobsleigher Elana Meyers crashed during her first official training run earlier today.
