The International Olympic Committee have asked Sochi organisers to elaborate on details surrounding the jailing of an environmental activist.
Yevgeny Vitishko, who was initially convicted of vandalism in June 2012 for spray-painting on the property of a local governor, had a ruling upheld in court on Wednesday surrounding his criticism of Olympic construction.
The 40-year-old criticised the environmental impact of the Sochi Winter Olympics, with a judge in Krasnodar converting a previous suspended sentence into a full prison term.
IOC member Mark Adams has called on Sochi to provide further details.
"Given the latest developments yesterday we have asked Sochi for further clarification," Adams is quoted as saying by Russian news agency Ria Novosti. "I understand, and I will wait for the clarification, that Vitishko broke his parole on a matter not related to the Olympic Games."
The Winter Olympics will run until February 23.
