Sochi hijacking suspect 'questioned' by Turkish police

Anti-terrorism police in Turkey question a Ukrainian man who tried to hijack a flight to Sochi during the Winter Olympics opening ceremony, according to reports.

Anti-terrorism police in Turkey are questioning a Ukrainian man who allegedly tried to hijack a flight yesterday during the Winter Olympics opening ceremony, according to reports.

Turkish media outlet TRT has reported that police have been trying to determine whether the man, identified as Artem Hozlov, has links to any terror groups.

"He wanted to divert the plane to Sochi to give a message regarding sporting activities there," Governor of Istanbul Huseyin Avni Mutlu is quoted as saying.

The United States government has recently told airlines flying into Russia that explosives could be hidden in toothpaste tubes and smuggled on their aircraft.
