Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, claims that "Russia has delivered on its promise" of hosting the XXII Winter Games.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, has given a rousing appraisal of the Olympics in the Black Sea resort town, claiming that "Russia has delivered on its promise" of hosting the XXII Winter Games.

At the end of the closing ceremony at the Fisht Stadium, the 45-year-old stepped up to the microphone to deliver his post-Games speech.

"Russia has delivered on its promise," he proclaimed to the audience. "We are all one team - the Sochi 2014 team.

"This is a new face of Russia - our Russia."

The Winter Games have officially been handed over to the South Korean city of Pyeongchang.
