Chemmy Alcott Olympic hopes in doubt

Chemmy Alcott's hopes of competing at the Winter Olympics are in doubt after her comeback race was cancelled.

Chemmy Alcott's quest to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming Winter Olympics hang by a thread after her comeback race was cancelled due to bad weather.

The 31-year-old resumed training in December after sustaining a broken leg in August 2012, but was told by Team GB selectors that she needed to prove her fitness in order to be selected for the Sochi games.

Alcott had hoped to compete in a World Cup downhill race in Cortina, the final Olympic qualification event, but heavy snow has forced postponement on Saturday and after an inspection saw racing cancelled, the British skier explained the problems hindering her comeback.

She told BBC Sport: "[Race officials] won't do anything until the team captains meet on Tuesday afternoon.

"They would need 15 hours of blue skies before the piste is ready for a World Cup race."

Alcott has competed at three previous Winter Olympics for Team GB.
