Nicky Gooch: 'Elise Christie can fight through adversity'

Great Britain short track speed skating coach Nicky Gooch feels that Elise Christie can bounce back from her disappointing Winter Olympics to claim a medal in the 1,000m.

Great Britain short track speed skating coach Nicky Gooch believes that Elise Christie can fight through adversity to claim a medal in the Winter Olympics.

Christie had a silver medal stripped in the women's 500m, while she was also disqualified from the 1,500m. If that wasn't enough for the 23-year-old to deal with she also became the victim of cyber-bullying.

Gooch told The Guardian: "This is not new. We have to deal with these problems in our sport. We'll try to think about the positives and things we can control.

"If we get it right on the day we will be in with a shout for medals. She's been low, disappointed and after the first night she had the hate mail. It got to her a bit but now in response to that she's had a lot of support from people."

Christie will get her campaign in the 1,000m underway later today.
