Shiva Keshavan: "Upsetting" to compete without a country

Shiva Keshavan says that it is "upsetting" for him not to be able to represent his country at the Sochi Games.

Shiva Keshavan has admitted that it is "upsetting" for him that he cannot represent his country at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The 32-year-old will compete in the luge event in Sochi as an Independent Olympics Participant under the Olympic flag, as India is currently suspended by the International Olympic Committee.

"It is upsetting," The AP quotes Keshavan as saying. "Ultimately, for us, the inspiration is to represent our country. That's what the Olympics are all about.

"The main thing has been taken away from us, and for quite a shameful reason, a violation of the ethics code - not just a violation, but a refusal to accept the ethics code until we were suspended."

Keshavan is working with the USA luge team for the Sochi Games.
