Andy Murray is drawn against Corentin Moutet in the first round of the US Open, while Novak Djokovic takes on another Frenchman in Alexandre Muller.

Former US Open champion Andy Murray will begin his bid for Grand Slam glory against Frenchman Corentin Moutet in round one of the 2023 tournament.

The 2012 Flushing Meadows winner - who clinched his first major title on American soil 11 years ago - seeks to avoid just a second first-round exit from the US Open, having lost at the first hurdle in 2021.

Victory for Murray over Moutet - who reached round four in 2022 and is ranked 71st in the world - could see the Briton meet 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov in round two, while Alexander Zverev may lie in wait in the third round.

Meanwhile, reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz commences the defence of his crown against Germany's Dominik Koepfer, before a possible meeting with one of two protected ranking players in Lloyd Harris or Guido Pella.

Alcaraz finds himself in the same section as Great Britain's Dan Evans, who will take on Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia and may be forced to pit his wits against the holder in round three.

Should Evans defy the odds in that hypothetical scenario, he could face compatriot Cameron Norrie for a spot in the quarter-finals, as the British number one takes on Alexander Shevchenko in his opening battle.

Elsewhere, three-time winner Novak Djokovic marks his return to Flushing Meadows with a tie against France's Alexandre Muller, having missed the 2022 edition due to COVID-19 vaccine requirements, while Jack Draper - assuming he can recover from a recent injury scare - faces Romania's Radu Albot.

In the women's singles tournament, defending champion Iga Swiatek has been drawn against Sweden's Rebecca Peterson, and the Pole is one of several big-hitters in the top half of the tournament.

Swiatek is on a collision course for a fourth-round tie against former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko, while Cincinnati Open champion Coco Gauff will face a victor from the qualifying rounds.

One of the headline encounters of the second round could see the 19-year-old American meet 16-year-old Russian protege Mirra Andreeva, who will also meet a qualifier on her US Open debut.

Elena Rybakina - who is still waiting for her first fourth-round appearance at the US Open - meets Marta Kostyuk in round one, while second seed Aryna Sabalenka takes on Belgium's Maryna Zanevska.

Victory for Sabalenka in the opening stage could see the Australian Open champion set up a second-round affair with Jodie Burrage, as the Briton pits her wits against Anna Blinkova, while the returning Caroline Wozniacki will take on a qualifier before a possible showdown with two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova.

Reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova will also square off against a victor from the preliminary rounds, while British number one Katie Boulter comes up against Diane Parry.

The 2023 US Open takes place from August 28 to September 10.
