Andy Murray, Heather Watson make progress in mixed doubles

Great Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson are through to the mixed doubles quarter-finals after beating Spain's David Ferrer and Carla Suarez-Navarro.

Great Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson have progressed through to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Olympic Games.

The pair only gained entry into the draw around an hour before their clash with Spain's David Ferrer and Carla Suarez-Navarro, but they made light work of their opponents on the main show court in Rio de Janeiro.

Murray and Watson created as many as eight break-point opportunities during the opener and two conversions were enough to move closer to the last eight.

In the second, they encountered problems with holding their own serve but they broke Spain four more times to wrap up a 6-3 6-3 win.

They will now face fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza of India.
