Andy Murray begins his Olympic singles campaign with a first-round win over Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka.

Andy Murray has begun his quest for an Olympic gold in the best possible manner by advancing to the second round of the men's singles with a straight-sets win over Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka.

Both men started nervously on Centre Court at Wimbledon, facing break points in their opening service games before a run of four straight games were all held to-love.

Wawrinka was the first man to crack as Murray broke in game eight by tracking down a short volley and chipping a winner over the highest part of the net into the corner.

The Scot went on to hold serve, sealing the opening set in 40 minutes with an ace down the T.

Murray then began the second in the best possible fashion by breaking in the opening game of the set before opening up a two-game advantage.

Murray almost opened up a double-break at 4-2 but couldn't convert two break-point chances as Wawrinka stayed in touch.

The Swiss could do little to stop Murray, however, as the Scot sealed the second set 6-3 with a break to close out the match in an hour and a half.

The 25-year-old will face either India's Somdev Devvarman or Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the second round.
