Rafael Nadal through to second round at Rio Olympics

Spain's Rafael Nadal eases into the second round at the Rio Olympics courtesy of a straight-sets win over Argentina's Federico Delbonis.

Spain's Rafael Nadal has booked his place in the second round of the men's singles at the Rio Olympics on his return from injury.

The world number five, who missed Wimbledon with a wrist injury, took just 90 minutes to overcome Argentina's Federico Delbonis 6-2 6-1 to cruise through his opening test in Brazil.

Nadal, who won gold in Beijing eight years ago, was forced to survive a break point in his first service game, and having held on he registered the first break of the match in the very next game, albeit at the fifth time of asking.

Delbonis responded with a break of his own, but the world number 43 lost three service games in a row as Nadal eased to a 6-2 triumph in the opener.

Things were even more straightforward for the Spaniard in the second set as, after losing the opening game, he reeled off six in a row to clinch the match in style.
