Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reaches Shanghai Masters quarter-finals

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will contest for a place in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters after reaching the final eight courtesy of a 6-2 7-6(2) victory over Marcos Baghdatis.

The Frenchman put his stamp on the court in the early stages with a strong serve and well-executed returns, which enabled him to snatch the first break of the contest.

Tsonga remained in control of the first set, while his Cypriot opponent failed to impose his game on the contest and was forced to relinquish the set.

Despite a brief stumble, Baghdatis launched a fightback in the second set and managed to push the Frenchman to a tie-break but Tsonga was able to compose himself and see through the decider to win the match.
