Feliciano Lopez has progressed to the second round of the Shanghai Masters following a straight-sets win over Janko Tipsarevic.

In a close-fought match, the Spaniard beat the ninth seed via tie-break in both sets, winning 7-6(2) 7-6(3).

The match represents Lopez's fifth win against the Serb in their six meetings.

Lopez will go on to face either Alex Bogmolov Jr or Marcel Granollers in the next round.
